About the CRC

The Core Research Centre is located in the University Research Park in Calgary. The facility is about 18 000 square metres (200 000 square feet) and two city blocks long. The CRC has expanded over the years to accommodate the increasing number of geological samples. It now includes a secondary warehouse for increased storage located on 48th Street SE in Calgary.

The CRC provides access to the following data and information about the energy industry:

  • well core,
  • drill cutting samples, and
  • tour (daily well drilling/completion) reports.

The current inventory consists of approximately

  • 1.55 million boxes of well core,
  • 20 million drill cutting samples representing an estimated 84 million metres drilled, and
  • 417 000 tour (daily well drilling) reports.
